Playskool Glide to Ride Bike Boy Review

Playskool Glide to Ride Bike BoyThe tire size for this bike is 12 inches with an inflatable tube but it sits lower than our Tonka 12 inch bike with training wheels. I bought this bike for my 2 year old but it is still to big for him. The minimum seat height is 15.5 inches. So, I used it on my smaller 5 year old to gain his confidence. My 5 year old was speeding around on a 16 inch bike with training wheels. After 4 30 minute sessions gliding with this bike my 5 year old was successful at riding without training wheels and with pedals down hill. After adding the pedals the bike is small for him and I will now put the bike away for my small 2 year old to use next year.

My neighbor saw how well the 5 year old was doing so quickly and is going to borrow it for her 5 year old.

Of course to get the best value out of this bike you would be better off getting this bike around 3 years old so you can use it with the pedals too.

Product Description:
Learning to ride a bicycle can be challenging for both kids and parents. The Glide to Ride bike provides children with a better way to learn by teaching them balance first ? the most essential skill in learning how to ride a bike. The Glide to Ride bike features two modes and grows with the child.
Kids begin using it in 'glide' mode. In this mode, unlike traditional bicycles, the Glide to Ride bike does not have pedals or training wheels. In 'glide' mode, riders are closer to the ground and use their feet to push along, giving them more control and allowing them to build self confidence.
When they are ready to graduate to 'ride' mode, the bike easily converts with screw-on pedals. The Glide to Ride does not require assembly - the chain and gears are already on the bike in a protective housing. Just screw the pedals on and it's ready to ride! Includes bike, handlebars, pedals, Allen wrench, handlebar pad and instructions. Measurements: 7.1" x 35" x 20". Weight Capacity approximately 55 lbs.

Balance Bike Review

Balance BikeWe really like this bike.My son has been riding a wooden one for about 7 months, and it is starting to fall apart. We bought him this one, and it a bit taller, and will definately last longer! My only complaint is there is some metal screws that hang out on the back tire frame part.It has been hard for my son because he keeps scraping his ankles on them when he really gets going (he is really fast!)We are going to file them down a bit, and put some kind of tape or something over them. The sturdiness of the bike far surpasses the wooden balance bike...and the color is awesome!

WeeRide 12-Inch Balance Push Training Bike (Multiple Colors) Review

WeeRide 12 inch Balance Push Training BikeI purchased the yellow version of this bike on sale for about 1/2 off.For the price, it seems I got my moneys worth assuming it holds up to use.I like it, it will last a long time height wise, and he likes it.

My complaints (ie: why this isn't a 5 star review)
(I know I could send the bike back, but I choose not to- IME returning a product isn't worth the hassle if you can fix it yourself)

*The bike arrived with chipped paint.

*The hand brake tire pads wouldn't adjust correctly- it was loose and wobbly. When braking it would move to one side or the other. The solution the manual gave was to take to a bike shop.My solution was to remove the brake- against the manuals direction.Given the bikes design having a braking mechanism seems more of a hindrance than a help.He can brake with his feet like kids do with practically every other balance bike on the market, I feel safer about him braking with his feet than I do about him using a handbrake with this style of bike. The child is too young, really, to understand the hand brake anyway. After removing it is impossible to reattach.

*The color is different in person- the tires have no white rim, the seat and handles are a bright yellow, the frame is a golden yellow. It looks uglier in person.

*It is larger than the other bikes I have seen in stores, which is botha good thing and a bad thing. It barely fits a 4 1/2 y/o who is over the 70th percentile for height with the seat adjusted extremely low.I purchased two, one for a younger child to grow into this summer- he is also very tall for his age.I am going to look into fitting 10 in tires to it.It is bigger than the other 12 in bike we have.If the smaller tires do not work, the other bike will wait in the box until next summer. This is labeled for 3+ and is marketed for 4 to 6 year olds, I believe the labeling is misleading.

I like the bike, but I wouldn't pay full price for it when there are other brands that do the same thing and are more established.

Update (04/2010).Today the almost 5 1/2 year old road on a 2 wheeled petal bike without training wheels for the first time!Yay!This bike did do its job, he is riding without training wheels within 2 hours of having them removed, and given that he is autistic this is definitely feat.He had no problems balancing on the other bike. The younger boy finally grew into his bike, a month before his 4th birthday, and hopefully by the end of summer will graduate to no training wheels also.I would say, if you need a bike for an older child, want something affordable, and are willing to deal with the flaws listed above, then I would buy this.Along with a petal bike of some sort.Breaking down and mastering the skills independently of each other seems to be the key to making learning to ride a bike as headache free as possible.

If you want to buy this for an average sized child under 4 or 4 1/2 years old, look elsewhere. If you have an extra $20 or so to spend, look elsewhere. If you don't have some basic tools to assemble it yourself, look elsewhere.Otherwise, this bike is fine for what it is.

M-Wave Child's Wooden Running Bike (Tiger) Review

M-Wave Child's Wooden Running BikeThis is a cute little bike.We have friends who bought it for their kids and love it. We bought if for our two year old for Christmas and he is barely tall enough, but will be by summer. It was easy to assemble and is sturdy and well made....Except for the tires. The tires do not inflate with a standard bike nozzle, you will have to purchase a special one at a bike shop. That wasn't a big deal and the front one inflated with no problem. The rear tire did not work, so we went back to the bike shop and bought a new inner tube for it (which comes with a standard nozzle). This was a five dollar purchase, but although my husband had replaced inner tubes before, it was very labor intensive to get the tire on and off and we almost took it to the bike shop to have them do it.Now it is a great bike.I think for the price it was worth the hassle, but since the other reviews had the same problem, it may be a typical one instead of a rare case.

Micro G-Bike Review

Micro G-BikeMy two-year-old rides his g-bike every day in the park - he is not any more coordinated than any other 2 year old but everyone is surprised to see small child on a bike.We also have friends with 2-year-old twins who ride it, love it -- they are in NY and get near-rock-star-treatment for their proficiency on it, they are also just 2 but there are 2 of them, so all the more fun to see. It took my son a couple days of pushing it, sitting on it, sort of moving it around rather than riding it. There are no pedals, they sit on it, and move their feet like they are running, then lift their feet for a coast. Having seen the twins on it, I knew he would love it once he got it, but I did have to take away (just temporarily!) his scooter so he would concentrate, and now he actually seems to prefer it. It is partly the fun of the bike, but also he likes attention he gets from everyone. I did lower the seat to make it easier for him to reach the ground. The handle bars and seat adjust higher and lower.Anyway, he now has a blast on it and it is definitely his favorite thing to ride, more fun even than mini micro scooter, made by same people. His favorite thing is to ride it down a slight incline -he runs a bit then coasts down the driveway, then repeat, repeat, repeat. At the park, he rides/drags it around and other kids take turns. The amazing thing is that when he is coasting on it, he is actually balancing on a 2 wheel bicycle (with pretty small wheels) and when it is time for him to ride a 2-wheel bicycle, I cannot see why it will be any problem for him at all.Cool toy, nice design. Also very light - when he gets tired, I can easily carry him and it - weighs about 3 pounds.
