Playskool Glide to Ride Bike Boy Review

Playskool Glide to Ride Bike BoyThe tire size for this bike is 12 inches with an inflatable tube but it sits lower than our Tonka 12 inch bike with training wheels. I bought this bike for my 2 year old but it is still to big for him. The minimum seat height is 15.5 inches. So, I used it on my smaller 5 year old to gain his confidence. My 5 year old was speeding around on a 16 inch bike with training wheels. After 4 30 minute sessions gliding with this bike my 5 year old was successful at riding without training wheels and with pedals down hill. After adding the pedals the bike is small for him and I will now put the bike away for my small 2 year old to use next year.

My neighbor saw how well the 5 year old was doing so quickly and is going to borrow it for her 5 year old.

Of course to get the best value out of this bike you would be better off getting this bike around 3 years old so you can use it with the pedals too.

Product Description:
Learning to ride a bicycle can be challenging for both kids and parents. The Glide to Ride bike provides children with a better way to learn by teaching them balance first ? the most essential skill in learning how to ride a bike. The Glide to Ride bike features two modes and grows with the child.
Kids begin using it in 'glide' mode. In this mode, unlike traditional bicycles, the Glide to Ride bike does not have pedals or training wheels. In 'glide' mode, riders are closer to the ground and use their feet to push along, giving them more control and allowing them to build self confidence.
When they are ready to graduate to 'ride' mode, the bike easily converts with screw-on pedals. The Glide to Ride does not require assembly - the chain and gears are already on the bike in a protective housing. Just screw the pedals on and it's ready to ride! Includes bike, handlebars, pedals, Allen wrench, handlebar pad and instructions. Measurements: 7.1" x 35" x 20". Weight Capacity approximately 55 lbs.

Hobby-bike Balance Bike Review

Hobby-bike Balance BikeI bought this bike for my son and nephew (both 3.5) for Christmas when I couldn't get the Kettler one. This bike is so much better.I have several friends with the Kettler and it is a great bike, but this bike is incredibly sturdy, aesthetically pleasing and it comes with petals that can be added. My husband and brother-in-law got the bikes together in minutes. The kids love them and they seem so much more substantial that typical bikes with training wheels - our neighbor has a toddler bike from target with training wheels. Our son is not the most coordinated and the bike does not intimidate him and he can go at his own pace. The tires are really wide and make it very stable. My nephew is extremely agile and is whizzing around already - I am sure he will be wanting the petals on before long. This bike will last - I know I will get use out of it for my daughter as well.Excellent bike, high quality.

Playskool Glide to Ride Bike Girl Review

Playskool Glide to Ride Bike GirlThis was the only glider/pedal combination bike I could find that was set up to work this way. I didn't want to get training wheels for my 4 year old because I find them unstable. This way she can learn to balance and then go straight to pedals. Another benefit is that she can push it around in the backyard on the grass, which she wouldn't be able to do with training wheels. She loves it and I think we will add the pedals before the end of this summer. One issue-the white plastic cover on the gears scrapes against the rear wheel, slowing it down and scratching the plastic wheel cover. I even took it to a bike store to see if they could take it apart and put it back together better than I did, but not much luck. It seems to be a design flaw of the bicycle. If I had known this I may have opted to buy a regular bikeand just have a bike shop take the pedals and gears off until she had her balance. A glider can be made with any bike just by doing that. So unless they fix this design flaw I would buy a differentbike instead and just turn it into a glider for a while. Probably more difficult to detach and attach, but the construction of this casing around the gears just doesn't fit correctly.

Balance Bike Review

Balance BikeWe really like this bike.My son has been riding a wooden one for about 7 months, and it is starting to fall apart. We bought him this one, and it a bit taller, and will definately last longer! My only complaint is there is some metal screws that hang out on the back tire frame part.It has been hard for my son because he keeps scraping his ankles on them when he really gets going (he is really fast!)We are going to file them down a bit, and put some kind of tape or something over them. The sturdiness of the bike far surpasses the wooden balance bike...and the color is awesome!

WeeRide 12-Inch Balance Push Training Bike (Multiple Colors) Review

WeeRide 12 inch Balance Push Training BikeI purchased the yellow version of this bike on sale for about 1/2 off.For the price, it seems I got my moneys worth assuming it holds up to use.I like it, it will last a long time height wise, and he likes it.

My complaints (ie: why this isn't a 5 star review)
(I know I could send the bike back, but I choose not to- IME returning a product isn't worth the hassle if you can fix it yourself)

*The bike arrived with chipped paint.

*The hand brake tire pads wouldn't adjust correctly- it was loose and wobbly. When braking it would move to one side or the other. The solution the manual gave was to take to a bike shop.My solution was to remove the brake- against the manuals direction.Given the bikes design having a braking mechanism seems more of a hindrance than a help.He can brake with his feet like kids do with practically every other balance bike on the market, I feel safer about him braking with his feet than I do about him using a handbrake with this style of bike. The child is too young, really, to understand the hand brake anyway. After removing it is impossible to reattach.

*The color is different in person- the tires have no white rim, the seat and handles are a bright yellow, the frame is a golden yellow. It looks uglier in person.

*It is larger than the other bikes I have seen in stores, which is botha good thing and a bad thing. It barely fits a 4 1/2 y/o who is over the 70th percentile for height with the seat adjusted extremely low.I purchased two, one for a younger child to grow into this summer- he is also very tall for his age.I am going to look into fitting 10 in tires to it.It is bigger than the other 12 in bike we have.If the smaller tires do not work, the other bike will wait in the box until next summer. This is labeled for 3+ and is marketed for 4 to 6 year olds, I believe the labeling is misleading.

I like the bike, but I wouldn't pay full price for it when there are other brands that do the same thing and are more established.

Update (04/2010).Today the almost 5 1/2 year old road on a 2 wheeled petal bike without training wheels for the first time!Yay!This bike did do its job, he is riding without training wheels within 2 hours of having them removed, and given that he is autistic this is definitely feat.He had no problems balancing on the other bike. The younger boy finally grew into his bike, a month before his 4th birthday, and hopefully by the end of summer will graduate to no training wheels also.I would say, if you need a bike for an older child, want something affordable, and are willing to deal with the flaws listed above, then I would buy this.Along with a petal bike of some sort.Breaking down and mastering the skills independently of each other seems to be the key to making learning to ride a bike as headache free as possible.

If you want to buy this for an average sized child under 4 or 4 1/2 years old, look elsewhere. If you have an extra $20 or so to spend, look elsewhere. If you don't have some basic tools to assemble it yourself, look elsewhere.Otherwise, this bike is fine for what it is.

Wishbone Bike Review

Wishbone BikeWe bought this as a gift for our two year old. We decided to go with the Wishbone over the Skuut b/c our first son was not tall enough for the Skuut when he was two. I loved the idea of the 3 wheels, however, my two-year old son is having quite a bit of difficulty riding this bike. His feet keep hitting the fork in the back of the bike. When he does this, it sometimes makes him fall over on the bike! The seat is at the recommended level and he is riding it correctly, so I think this is a flaw in the design of the bike. Which is really a shame for the amount of money this bike cost! If we had kept the original box, we would be returning the bike and buy instead a regular two wheel balance bike.

I see we can post a video review. If I have the time, I will upload a video of the problem we are having.

Product Description:
Unlike any other running bikes, the Wishbone bike evolves with a child's different stages of development. It starts at age 1 as a trike, converts to a running bike as the child grows, and by four to five years old, the 'wishbone' frame is flipped, making the Wishbone Bike one of the largest running bikes on the market. With its environmentally sustainable design and innovative 3-bikes-in-1 feature, the Wishbone bike, designed in New Zealand, really is the ultimate pre-bike. Every Wishbone Bike has 60% post-consumer recycled plastic wheels, is made from sustainably managed woods and is bonded and finished with eco-friendly products. The Bike box and all printed material inside is recycled and printed with non-toxic inks.

YBIKE Extreme Balance Bike (Orange) Review

YBIKE Extreme Balance BikeI saw this balance bike advertised for the 3-5 age range, so I purchased one, and after assembling it, I could see how small it was. Then when my son tried it, the YBike was definitely too small. The age range for it is more like 2 or 2.5 to 3.5. Misleading advertising.

Here is other the major problem with this bike: in today's market, with more and more balance bike options, YBike simply lacks adjustability as the child grows. The handlebars are not adjustable. The seat is not adjustable. You can easily find 10 balance bikes online that have adjustable handlebars and seats, which are actually important for the longevity of a bike! Although the frame of YBike Extreme is small, the seat could have been made with at least one higher position. The handlebars are also a little narrow and low. No rubber grips.

Your kid will definitely have fun on Ybike Extreme, but do not expect it to last as long as a balance bike with adjustability. For that reason, I could not recommend this balance bike wholeheartedly to a family who has $80 to spend only to have to replace this bike in one year or so. I'd tell families to buy a longer-lasting balance bike!

Assembly was very easy and quick. Disassembly was also a cinch. YBike Extreme is so very light and easy to carry. It scores points for its streamlined, modern design.

It's too bad that the designers didn't include longevity with this bike.

Product Description:
Start 'em learning to ride at an early age with the orange YBike Extreme balance bike.

The YBike Extreme helps your child learn to balance and turn without risking injury.A more versatile, slightly larger version of the original YBike, the YBike Extreme is designed and engineered to help your child build the skills, balance, and coordination necessary to ride a big-kid bicycle. The YBike Extreme is outfitted with an all-aluminum, corrosion-resistant frame, with a injection-molded structure that eliminates weak points and offers more design freedom, hence the sleek curves and smooth, superior finish. At the same time, the bike's safety-oriented design will help your kid learn the basics of riding without risking injury. The front wheel is considerably farther forward than on most children's bikes, creating a bigger turning circle. This makes it less likely that kids will fall over the front when turning. The YBike Extreme's high-clearance body and large wheels, meanwhile, let kids ride safely on almost any terrain, including pavement, grass, or even sand.
Kids who tested the YBike Extreme for 20 to 30 minutes twice a week showed substantial improvements in both static and dynamic balance and bilateral coordination. Children as young as 1.5 years also showed observable improvements in physical self-confidence. So sit back, relax, and watch your little ones develop their bike-riding skills with the YBike Extreme. The product--which supports 220 pounds on a smooth, flat surface and 120 pounds on a rough surface--measures 33 by 17 by 9.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7 pounds.
