Huffy Disney Princess Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Huffy Disney Princess Girls' BikeI bought this bike for my daughter's 4th birthday. She loves Disney Princesses, and pink is her favorite color.I guess this is typical for most girls her age, so my guess is that if your daughter is like mine, she, too, will LOVE this bike.It is covered in Disney Princesses, sparkly jewels, and flower decals. The giant pink things in the wheel spokes are sparkly pink gems ( it's hard to tell that from the picture.)

My husband put it together with just a few tools, and it seemed to go together fairly easily.I guess it took about 1/2 an hour, and I had to help a bit with holding things while he tightened them. The directions were a bit wordy, I prefer ones that show more pictures, and have fewer words. And the instruction booklet has several different styles of bikes listed, with various differences in accessories and parts. So you need to read through to find the correct style/model for this bike. But once you have it put together, your little girl's dreams of a big girl bike will come true!

It is very sturdy, and solidly built.I'm sure it will still be looking good long after she outgrows this size bike. The tassels on the handle bars might not last that long, as it seems they break off fairly easily.

My bike came from FogDog, which I have never heard of.It was delivered quickly, and with no problems. So I have no qualms about ordering from this company again. They also had free shipping, and no taxes, so I paid the price listed, and nothing more.It arrives in a box which is covered in Princesses and shows the bike, so if it is to be a surprise, you may want to be aware of this.

So, in conclusion, I give this bike 5++ stars, and 5 stars to FogDog, with 3 1/2 stars for the assembly directions ( for 5 stars they need to have instructions written for this specific model, without all the different models included. )

Kettler Candy Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Kettler Candy Girls' BikeWe paid extra for the Kettler name because we wanted to avoid poorly made, potentially dangerous merchandise from big box stores. We had previously purchased a Kettler tricycle for our child and were very pleased with the German made quality. Knowing that more and more manufacturers are moving production to China, I investigated this pretty thoroughly. I did not attempt to contact Kettler and I wish I had.

When I received the bike and assembled it, the first thing I noticed was the atrocious quality of the welds. Any first year trade school student could do better. The welds are pitted and jagged. If any quality control procedure at all had been in place, this bike would have been rejected. This prompted me to look closely at the box where I found the "Made in China" label.

Please understand that I have nothing against the people of China. They are certainly capable of producing high quality goods. The sole reason any Western corporation moves production overseas is to produce those goods cheaply. The retail price stays the same or increases, and the company makes more profit for the investors.

What angers me is that the country of origin was not clearly identified. Kettler is trading on their previously well earned reputation for quality and substituting slipshod garbage like the Candy model. We paid twice as much for a bike with the Kettler name. I guess there is no other alternative, but if that's the case we'll just go buy the junk at big box mart like everyone else.

Kawasaki KX16 Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Kawasaki KX16 Girls' BikeJust like the 12-inch version we bought for our daughter a year or two ago, this Kawasaki girl's 16-inch bike is well worth the money. We are completely satisfied with our purchase. Unlike the big-box store selection (often in over-the-top girly/frilly colors and designs), this bike is quite sturdy, not too cutesy, and includes additional features that other bikes do not. Some of the best selling points include a chainguard that completely covers the chain. It includes a handbrake in addition to the coaster brake. The seat is comfortably padded. And, it comes with a backpack (which can be attached to the front) and a matching water bottle. We only wish that it had a front tire mud-guard. Amazon's price and shipping-time couldn't be beat.

Columbia Girl's Song Bird Bike, Pink, 16-Inch Review

Columbia Girl's Song Bird Bike, Pink, 16 inchThe picture did not represent the bike we received. The major difference was that the photo shows a hand brake but the unit we received had a 'coaster' brake. The item arrived exactly when it was supposed to but was missing a couple of items:1 of 4 plastic guards for the wheel nuts and an instruction sheet.Three adults (including an engineer) managed to assemble the bike in about 90 minutes although we're still guessing whether everything is in the right place! The quality is good, as expected, but I doubt that the decorative decals will last very long, and that is disappointing considering the price. However, the frame is sound and the paint quality is excellent so I'm sure it will render many hours of happy use--even if the decals do come off!

Pacific Twirl Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Pacific Twirl Girls' BikeWe bought this bike for our 4-year-old daughter's birthday. She is a bit tall for her age, so I can imagine that some would have a hard time fully pushing the pedals. It was easy enough to put together, and seems sturdy and solid when she rides. We think it's a nice alternative to the more commercially decorated (ie. Disney) bikes.

Mongoose Pizazz Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Mongoose Pizazz Girls' BikeThe bike is very durable, easy to maneuver, and to assemble. The only flaws I find is that the hand brake is extremely hard to squeeze (I'm her dad and it takes a lot of effort for me!).The default pedal brakes are sufficient and my 5 year old quickly figured out how to brake by reversing the direction of her peddling. The other downside is its weight.I'd say easily 50 pounds of solid metal which is about the same weight of my adult graphite bike. But again, you are getting something very durable.

It's completed by handlebar pads for added protection and a stylish backpack that attaches to the handlebar. Recommended for ages 3 to 6.

About Mongoose
In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.
The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).
In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.
In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose's brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.
